What do your products do for customers?
Hamlet test and measurement tools enable professionals to achieve the best they can in the production chain and comply with the technical criteria laid down by broadcasters.

From the line up of cameras, to the shoot, the edit, colouring, captioning, and transmission including front line maintenance of the process, Hamlet equipment ensures quality.

No-one wants to have to go and re-shoot due to bad camera matrixing, black or white crushing or colour casts, hence the Hamlet mantra – get things right from the start and make sure your program complies throughout the production process. The result – excellence in vision.

Which piece of equipment could you not do without?
It would have to be my Hamlet MicroFlex, which is widely recognised as the most powerful, convenient and cost-effective handheld precision broadcast test instrument in the world.

To make compelling and captivating content it is essential to maintain standards.

A great film can be ruined if any element of a production is set badly, be it cameras, colouring, grading, graphics or computer animation.

To maintain any standards, universal criteria that are accepted by all in the industry need to be used during the creative process. Decent measurement devices, such as the MicroFlex, ensure compliance and continuity of quality.

What first inspired you to work in the TV and film industry?
My fascination with the workings of the film and television industry stems from my youth, when my father took me to Elstree and Pinewood studios.

Seeing the excitement of the creative environment – the vast sets, the equipment, the crews, the actors, making movies and programs – made me want to be a part of it, encouraging me to study hard, so that I could realise my ambition.

Stereoscopic 3D – fad or future?
Definitely future. I think 3D will continue to grow as audiences become more accepting of the medium and more content becomes available.

It can be a double-edged sword for film and programme makers as although 3D has a better shelf-life and the potential to bring in greater returns than 2D, it is also expensive to produce. As James Cameron says, it costs by the yard to create depth.

There’s a lot of development in the regional industry, with shoots like MI4 coming to Dubai. Where do you see the next five years taking us?
The fact that movies, such as [MI] 4, part shoot in Dubai proves the infrastructure and professional expertise are now in the region to be called upon.

The ability to provide the expertise that meets the demands of well-known studios will enforce the idea that increased investment in the region provides a great return. To be at the forefront of this new wave of production in the region will be of great benefit to creative professionals as well as hardware and software manufacturers.
