State broadcaster Dubai Media Incorporated has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) to develop training programmes for local students keen to pursue a career in media production.
Under the terms of the agreement, HCT students will be provided practical training producing a range of television programmes in association with DMI.
One of the highlights of this deal will be a major cultural programme that will be launched by Sama Dubai, DMI’s Arabic entertainment channel.
DMI MD Ahmed Abdullah Al Sheikh said he hoped the new courses would offer UAE students insights into “the dynamic nature of broadcast journalism and its varied techniques”.
“We believe this agreement will act as a key avenue to unleash the creative energies of our national students in the field of media,” he said in a statement.
HCT will provide suitable locations for the filming and production of proposed TV programmes, including the colleges’ theatres and on-campus studios. Furthermore, HCT students will be nominated to participate in the programmes based on their academic majors and skills, within the boundaries of DMI’s regulations.
The undergraduates will also be given a chance to try their hands in filming TV promos and related programmes.
The deal also mandates that DMI will be responsible for building the studio sets, provide lighting, special sound, and graphic effects for the proposed programmes, in addition to facilitating the camera crew.
The supervision process of other components such as directing, editing, and production of mutually approved programmes will also be provided by DMI.
“The success of an educational practice depends on how updated and interactive it is on the local and international front in all fields,” said HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research and chancellor of HCT.
“Our synergy with DMI will serve to motivate national students to join the media industry and pursue a career in the field of broadcasting."
